dj tutorials

o be that you had to go to college or a music production school to find a decent music production course. Now nearly every music school offers one. This should be no surprise due to the amount of time and money that people are now spending on entertainment.

So, the question is: Where can I find a great music production school?

And, who is going to provide me with the music skills, knowledge and experience that will really make a difference, without charging an enormous fee?

Music production schools are offering basic music production programs and even Community Colleges have jumped on the bandwagon. Does this mean that they are all good? NO!

Firstly, I doubt that you can get even minimal training at a music production school without paying at least hundreds of dollars in fees. And is that a risk worth taking? For some, maybe, but for most of us, probably not!

If youre like most people looking for an advantage with music production learning, you are not going to be able to afford a major fee at a music production school.

Maybe you are one of the smart ones and have looked to the internet for a better solution. Online music production lessons and courses are now becoming popular as they are much cheaper and more convenient; while at the same time still provide a solid foundation for learning the latest music production techniques.

An excellent example of an online music production course is http://www.musicproducerpro.net

Music Producer Pro offers courses that consist of a series of online music production lessons delivered via downloadable videos in an easy step-by-step style. You gain access to dozens of lessons for a single once off joining fee and are guided through a series of activities designed to enhance your learning experience.

And it offers you unlimited access 7 days a week.

With every production video you learn something new and different thats designed to open your mind to interesting and cool music techniques. It is one of the most happening interactive online music production schools in the world.

The flexibility of an online course allows you to focus on the skills you want to master, rather than being tied to a rigid, out-of-date curriculum. And the teaching at http://www.musicproducerpro.net is very professional. If you are a beginner, they will help you formalise your knowledge and get the terms explained. If you are advanced, Jays techniques will get you producing music at a much higher level.

But lets keep this very simple. If you want to produce music, Music Producer Pro will show you how.

They offer a full range of video lessons to suit everyone from the beginner to those looking to refine and broaden their skills, whether you want to play for your own enjoyment or to make a career as a DJ or producer. Whether it’s studio recording, concert sound, movie sound, radio or television broadcasting, or working with a record label or artist management, it’s all about music! If you want to work as a music producer, or any other audio career, you will need a cost effective education.

If you have ever asked or tried to learn how to produce music from the traditional music production schools then you will know that it is not cheap. A lot of people interested in music production dont think about the cost of six months of college lessons. But it adds up to hundreds of dollars. I know a lot of people have joined this site because it offers access to a whole lot of learning material online for a small once-off fee.

I’ve posted this link www.musicproducerpro.net for every musician/dj interested in finding out more about online music production tuition, whether you are beginning to learn or simply wanting to expand your musical production skills.

Mixing Tips - Just Hit Mute

by exodusms on Dec.11, 2008, under Advertising

Mixing everything The most common noises you’ll get rid of are things like some one breathing, a note book page of rhymes being turned or better yet the under lying tone of the room that starts build up as your track count increases. Using the automation of your DAW is essential to this step. Alternately you could edit out noise manually or try using a noise gate but right now the MUTE button is the star so show it some love. Using the automated mutes also makes it look cool when your mixes play back every one will thing you a pro engineer.

The other secret and mysterious power of the mute button is using it to sculpt the arrangement of your track. Use the mute button to turn of sounds during sections of a track. Every instrument in a beat or song doesn’t need to play the entire way through the track. Use the mute button to create breaks in the drum patterns or open up sections of the song. Doing this will help add interest to your mix and bring out the form of the song. Maybe if you just came out of a heavy section of a song like the chorus you could mute out a few instruments at the beginning of the verse so they dynamics of the track change and contrast a bit. Then as the verse continues slowly add instruments back in building back up to the chorus. The possibilities of what you can do with your beats and songs in endless and so are the amount of interest it will add to your mix.

Finding Hip Hop Mix Podcasts

by exodusms on Dec.11, 2008, under Music

Mix Music

Many music podcasts are available online for downloading; if one wanted to find, for instance, a hip hop mix podcast, there are a few sites available to help. The first possibility would be to go directly to a site which creates one and subscribe to it using a podcast client which automatically checks the feed for new episodes and downloads them for the user. If, however, one did not know of any hip hop mix podcast sites, or simply wanted to find new podcast sites, the best possibility would be to check a podcast directory, a list of podcasts that can be browsed.

Hip hop mix podcasts could easily be found at one of these podcast directories. A podcast directory stores lists of podcasts which have been submitted to the site, and categorizes them by genre, type of podcast, region, and other meta data. To find a hip hop mix podcast, visiting a podcast directory and checking under music podcasts, and then under hip hop music would find many podcasts which play that type of music.

The hip hop mix podcast could then be subscribed to by inputting the feed address listed into one of the many podcast clients. The music will come in episodes, the name for each downloadable portion of a podcast. Some of these podcasts may feature independent artists, musicians trying to break into the music industry who have chosen podcasting as a way of sharing their music and gaining a following. Others may be remixes of popular songs that have been changed in some way to give a different feel to the music. Often, the artists may already be established, though, and they still see podcasting as a way to introduce themselves to a larger audience. They may grant rights to pay certain hip hip songs to a podcaster, letting them play the music as part of their mix distribution while requesting a link to a site where more information can be learned about the artists and music can be purchased. Artists that have done this include alias, edan, outerspace, RA the rugged man, roots manuva, and outer space.

A large number of podcasts featuring hip hop mix podcasts are actually radio stations, however. These broadcasters have found that podcasting their shows and selections is an easy way to reach more listeners and gain a greater audience. These podcasters can reach more people easier and cheaper than they can by playing hip hop mix music over the airwaves in their local areas. Playing hip hop music over the internet is probably the way many future artists will do their work, and there are many ways available even now that they can do so and make a profit. For instance, some podcasts are designed to work on a payment basis. A hip hop artist who wished to share his music could charge for addition to the feed list, then issue a unique feed address to the user, allowing them to hear new pieces of hip hop music released. The hip hop music file could even be designed so it could not be copied and used by another user at a different computer, to ensure that the artist could maintain control over his work.

Evolution of Different Types of Music Gear

by exodusms on Dec.11, 2008, under Music

Music is a form of expression consisting of sound, rhythm, harmony, etc. The definition of music varies according to culture and social backgrounds. It can be divided into various categories. Music gear is the whole set of equipment like sound equipment, stage speakers, recording equipment, DJ equipment, microphones, speakers, etc. Here we try to explore the evolution of different types of music gear.

Amplifier is a device that converts a signal with a small amount of energy into a similar signal with a larger amount of energy. Popularly we call it electronic amplifier particularly in audio applications.

An audio amplifier is usually used to amplify signals such as music and speech. Instrument amplifier is a kind of audio amplifier that is designed to be used with an electric guitar, an electric bass, or an electronic keyboard.

Traditional amplifiers come with a clean, warm sound and a sharp treble roll-off at 5 kHz. High power amplifiers were developed between 1960 and 1970. However, by 1980, smaller instrument amplifiers with lower wattage ratings were developed that could be switched on and off more quickly.

Microphone is another important music gear. It is actually an audio device that can convert sound into electrical signals. The primitive microphones were called transmitters. The first commercial microphone was the carbon microphone designed in 1876 by the great inventor Thomas Edison. After that a lot of technological improvement has been witnessed in the microphones with the emergence of condenser, capacitor, electrostatic, wireless and shotgun microphones.

Recording equipment like mixing console, multi-track recorder, microphones, loudspeakers, compressors, and equalizers are also types of music gear. During 1890 to 1930, phonograph horns and direct to disk cutting process were used for master recordings.

With the invention of microphones, electronic amplifiers, the mixing disk and loudspeakers, electronic recording equipment became high tech. Now the studios have started using digital recording equipment that are supported by latest upgraded versions of computer and software.

We all know that a person who selects, plays, and mixes music for the audience is called a DJ or disc jockey. The equipment that are used by a DJ are vinyl records, compact discs, computer media files, mixer with a cross fader, headphones and microphones. The history of these music gear is quite interesting. The phonograph cylinder, invented by Thomas Alva Edison was the first that was used as a DJ equipment.

The DJ culture probably started in the mid 1800 and has grown tremendously popular and later gave birth to concepts like discotheques and nightclubs. In the year 2001, i-pod by Apple entered into the list of DJ equipment because of the convenience of improved technology that allows the DJ to carry a wide variety of music in one single and small device. In fact in the year 2006 the Disk Jockey concept celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Like the history of human civilization, the history of various music gear is also equally interesting. And that is because, whether it is music gear or musical instruments, both make sure that the tune of human lives and minds always remains melodious and sweet.

Useful Tips To Help You Buy Inexpensive Music Gear

by exodusms on Dec.10, 2008, under Music

Mix Music
Musicians and music lovers can’t do without music gear. But they are a bit expensive. And people have a notion that if you want to buy a good gear then you have to spend a lot of money. But this idea is not fully correct. While it is true that the majority of them are expensive, that does not mean that you will not find any good quality gear at a reasonable price. You just need to have a crystal clear idea and have to know where to search and how to search for them.

There are lots of inexpensive music gear available now. Let us have a quick glance at some of them.

Microphone

Let us talk about microphone first. They are very important for doing music. Their price has fallen now. There are a whole lot of microphones available now and that too at reasonable prices. Marshall Electronics’ MXL V67G, Behringer BL can be a good option for you.

Mixer

Mixer is necessary for music and also for your home studio. There are lots of mixers available now in the market. Some of them come at low price. But be very careful before going for them. Before buying, you should be aware of some facts. You should check out how many channels they are offering. Make sure that they offer you at least 12 to 16 channels. Otherwise it will not be much useful.

The next big factor that you should keep in mind is the digital features. Many low price gear now provide various digital effects like reverbs. Many of these effects are inbuilt. These effects are also very good for general use.

Another option is having a firewire option. It will help you to send signal to the computer from the mixer. But this option is relatively new and it hasn’t appeared as an indispensable feature. So it is up to you whether you will use this or not. The Behringer mixers and the Mackie mixers are good quality low budget mixers.

Audio interface

Audio interface connects the mixer with the computer. It also converts the analogue audio signal to digital signal. Using a firewire audio interface or USB Audio interface will be good for you.

Computer Audio Workstation

Computers are very important for making music. You can mix music at home if you have a pc. But you just need a good configuration. There are lots of brands available that will provide you good PCs, both laptop and desktop at low prices. Brands that give good quality desktop are Apple iMac Desktop Computer with Intel Core, Apple Macpro recording package, etc. Laptops brands are, Apple MacBook Notebook computer with Intel Core, Rain Recording Live book L4 Laptop Audio Computer etc.

Studio Monitors

Studio monitors are almost like sound speakers. But they have got some differences. For instance, audio monitors are specially made to deliver the recorded material accurately. Alesis M1 Active 620 2 way near field Monitor, Behringer B2030A Active Studio Monitor, Dynaudio Acoustics BM5A Active Nearfield Monitor, Event TR8XL Tuned Reference Biamplified Monitors, etc. are good quality studio monitors.

Most Important Home Recording Equipment and Supplies

by exodusms on Dec.10, 2008, under Home Improvement

dj tutorials

Home recording equipment and supplies ensure quality audio output. There are several essential home recording devices.

On top of the list of home recorders are microphones. Microphones include dynamic microphones used for stage and studio. It is not required to use phantom power. It is compatible to use with snare drums and guitar cabs. Dynamic mikes are more durable. Condenser microphones on the other hand need phantom power. Ideally it is equipped with a large two diaphragm capsule and allows 3 directional patterns. Another distinction in mikes is its sound receiving capability or how it picks up sound - the difference between “omni-directional” and “directional” mikes. Directional mikes derive sound in a place directly before the microphone. The omni-directional mikes gather sound equally from all directions. A “cardioid” mike is the most common type of directional mike because it picks up audio thru a heart-shaped pattern radiating out from the front part of the microphone. The difference between mono and stereo mikes is that mono mikes record a one channel audio while stereo mikes derive audio from different signals with the help of a stereo recording device. Other microphone accessories include boom stands, mounts, pop filters, windscreens, transformers and stand arms. Windscreens have mike foam or cloth cover to reduce noise and ideally the fuzzy fabric type is the most effective type.

Headphones are used to monitor environmental noise, sound levels and generally recording quality.

Cables connect recording equipments and instruments. This includes instrument cables, microphone cables, connectors, adapters, cable organizers, cable testers, speaker cables, digital audio cables, pedal cables and adapter cables. Average good cable seems to cost in the range of 75 cents through $2.00 Speakers and loudspeakers are essential instruments to the sound being produced in side the recording studio. Good loudspeakers, efficient amplifiers and sub bass units should be prioritized.

Computers are important in home recording. It should have a required amount of processing and ram. Both Macintosh and Windows are acceptable platforms or operating systems that can be used.

Moveable compact disk recorders, direct-to-CD field recorder, DAT recorders, straight to laptop recording, standard mini disc recorders and Hi- MD recorders are audio recording equipments.

Digital audio workstations, software & audio interfaces include sequencers for digital audio and MIDI, software synthesizers and samplers, audio effects software, interactive composing software, computer sample CDs, dj software, educational software and CD burning software. These supplies are used for mixing, editing, recording and mastering computer. The existence of freeware for beginners in home recording is a good way to practice when recording a few of tracks. One example of freeware is Audacity. When using Macintosh operating system, the recommended audio recording software includes iLife, logic and logic express software. In order to convert analog signals from instruments and recording it to the computer one must have a digital-analog converter or the sound card. There are two sound cards: the high end and the outboard model. The high end soundcard is plugged into the motherboard while the outboard is attached thru an usb or fire wire with power source. High end soundcards are cheaper and ideal for beginners.

Last but not the least one item that can be useful in home recording is a video tutorial kit. One example is the Music Producer Pro which includes practical advice and demonstrations on music production.

Where to Use Promotional Products

by exodusms on Dec.10, 2008, under Marketing

Promotional products represent a key ingredient of marketing and advertising campaigns run by businesses and organisations, from major blue chips and government bodies to hospitals, universities, schools and clubs.

Promotional products have a wide variety of uses. According to the Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) in the US the top ten uses are: business gifts, trade shows, brand awareness, employee relations and events, public relations, dealer/distributor programmes, new customer/account generation, new product or service introduction, employee service awards, and not-for-profit fundraising programmes.

Various studies have been undertaken to prove the usefulness of promotional products. One of these was a study* in 2004 by Georgia Southern University. This concluded that pre-show mailings which include promotional products are more effective than mailings without in terms of generating traffic to an exhibitor’s booth. The experiment found that by either including a promotional product with the mailing or an offer for a higher value item to be claimed at the show led to a larger number of recipients visiting a booth to see the exhibitor’s product offerings.

Other effective uses for promotional products include market research, corporate communications, incentive schemes, customer referral, public awareness campaigns, internal promotions and encouraging brand loyalty.

One of the many attractions of promotional products is that they can be used alone or integrated with other advertising media. They complement and actually increase the effectiveness of other media such as print and television.

As we have seen, there are numerous marketing platforms which reap significant benefits from the use of promotional products.
